After Hawaiian native, Anthony Wichman, made national headlines after being pulled underwater by a 230-pound tuna, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) called on the fisherman to hang up his pole for good.
released by PETA, the animal rights group calls on Wichman to do some “soul searching” and calls fishing a cruel, frightening and painful experience for all fish. According to PETA, “fish, like other animals, value their lives and don’t want to be killed.”
An ironic statement coming from animal rights organization, after the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance reported that PETA killed 89.4% of animals in its Virginia headquarters in 2012.
The incident capsized Wichman’s boat and drug him underwater after hooking the Ahi tuna 10 miles southwest of Port Allen on the island of Kauai. Wichman’s leg had been caught in the fishing line.
Friends of Wichman were able to reel in the Ahi tuna after Coast Guard officials reached the scene.
