With most outdoors enthusiasts’ attention turned to fishing—or staying cool—it’s easy to overlook the fact that hunting seasons start in many areas in about a month. Are you prepared?
In addition to buying ammunition, or possibly purchasing a new shotgun for dove hunting, you may want to work now to up your success rate later. One way to do that could be to attend a shooting school. The good news is that you have many options.
A top option and favorite among many wingshooters is Gil and Vicki Ash’s OPS shooting schools. You’ll learn the fine points of hand-eye-and-shotgun coordination through lots of practice. Be ready to mount a shotgun to your shoulder hundreds of times in one day. The end results are worth it. Details can be found at http://www.ospschool.com/
Orvis is another source for skills schools where guns are more than welcome. This well-known retailer offers a half dozen shooting courses at various locations. Each student receives an individual stock fitting session. Details are at http://www.orvis.com/store.
Mississippi’s Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is also offering intermediate and advanced shotgunning courses throughout the summer months. The advanced course covers many topics including gun fit, advanced interception methods, natural point of aim, strong and weak side coverage, the swing, and a proper sight picture. Intermediate courses are also offered. Most of the classes are taught at the Turcotte Education & Shooting Facility in Canton, Mississippi.
