Alert: Montana Wolf Trapping under Attack

Montana’s Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission is considering a proposal that would allow for a new wolf trapping season beginning in the fall of 2012.  Footloose Montana, an anti-trapping organization that has advocated for a ban on trapping for all public lands in the state, is lobbying the Commission and asking them to strike down the proposal.

The wolf trapping proposal will be discussed at the Thursday, May 10^th Commission meeting starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Montana Wild Education Center located at 2668 Broadwater Avenue in Helena.  The public will have the opportunity to address the Commissioners starting around 2:00 p.m.  For more information on the meeting’s agenda, click here.

Sportsmen able to attend the meeting should plan to do so to show their support for the proposed trapping season and science-based wildlife management. All sportsmen should plan to speak in support of the proposal.  Those unable to attend can contact the Commissioners and voice their support via email at fwpcomm@mt.gov or by phone.  Let them know that wildlife management should be based on science, not anti-trapping rhetoric, and that trapping is a humane and effective tool for controlling predator populations like wolves.
