Our Most Popular Hunting Dogs

Posted on August 21, 2012

With opening day of dove season only days away in many states, we thought you’d like to see where your hunting dog ranks as a top breed on the 2011 AKC Most Popular Dog Breed list:

Labrador Retriever #1,

Beagles #3,

Golden Retrievers #4,

German Shot Hair Pointers #15,

Cocker Spaniels #27,

Springer Spaniels #29,

Brittanys #30

and Weimaraners #32.

If you were also wondering, the most popular dog names are: Bear (for a male) and Lady (for a female). Beagles, popular with rabbit hunters, were the most popular dog breed in America in the late 1950s.
