Las Vegas, NV– The Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) recognized one of its Corporate Partners, the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA), for 35 years of service to America’s sportsmen and women. USSA is a watchdog organization that protects hunting, fishing, and trapping in the courtrooms and capitals at the national and state levels.
POMA Chairman of the Board Kevin Tate presented a plaque to Walter “Bud” Pidgeon, Jr., President and CEO of USSA, during POMA’s Annual Gathering and Press Conference at the 2013 SHOT Show.
“POMA is pleased to recognize USSA for all they’ve accomplished during the past 35 years,” Tate said. “In addition, we must recognize the incredible commitment USSA has made to the traditional outdoor sports media, through the organization’s support of POMA. USSA alerts the media to issues of importance and provides facts, so journalists may fairly and honestly report the stories to their readers, listeners, and viewers.”
Based in Columbus, Ohio, USSA began battling lawsuits and ballot initiatives filed by anti-hunting and anti-trapping groups focused on ending trapping in Ohio in 1977. The following year the USSA was officially formed and has since worked in all 50 states on numerous critical issues. In recent years the top challenges have included fighting the Humane Society of the United States and other groups over puppy mill bills or backdoor attempts to reduce and end the use of dogs in hunting. The USSA has also spearheaded efforts in the U.S. Congress to protect hunting and trapping on U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management tracts across America. The USSA won an 8-year battle to protect hunting on national wildlife refuges in 2011.
