New Jersey Sportsmen: Urge Governor to Sign Sunday Hunting Bill

3/18/09

The New Jersey Assembly has approved a bill that would allow deer hunting on Sundays with a bow and arrow.

Senate Bill 802, sponsored by Senator Stephen Sweeney (D-3), authorizes licensed bow hunters to hunt deer on Sundays on private property or on state wildlife management lands during deer season.

While USSA would prefer the bill to be open to firearms as well, this effort is a step in the right direction in New Jersey as Sunday hunting has been prohibited for over 100 years.

“Hopefully this will lay the ground work necessary to allow Sunday hunting with firearms in the near future,” said Rob Sexton USSA Vice President for Government Affairs. “Sportsmen throughout New Jersey should support this bill and ask Governor Corzine to sign it immediately.”

Before becoming law, the bill must clear one final hurdle in gaining the signature of Governor Jon S. Corzine.

Of course, anti’s such as the Humane Legislative Fund, (HSLF), the Humane Society of the United States’ legislative wing are pushing for Corzine not to sign.

Take Action! New Jersey sportsmen must contact Governor Corzine today and urge him to sign the bill. Make sure he knows this represents a safe and efficient way to control deer population throughout the state.
