Anti’s Take Another Crack at Ending Dove Hunting in Minnesota

3/18/09

Once again, Minnesota’s mourning dove hunt is under direct assault.

Apparently, the anti’s don’t believe in the old adage that those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.  Despite recent failures to overturn Minnesota’s dove hunt, the anti’s keep bringing it up year after year.  Sportsmen must take immediate action to make sure history does repeat itself. They must foil the anti’s plan to ban the hunt.

HF 1321, introduced by Representative Karen Clarke (DFL- Minneapolis), will outlaw mourning dove hunting, and remove mourning doves from the state gamebird list.

The bill has been referred to the Environment Policy and Oversight Committee.

The USSA worked with Minnesota sportsmen’s groups to pass mourning dove hunting legislation in 2004. In 2007, two bills identical to House File 1321 were introduced but were defeated by a grassroots coalition of sportsmen.

The USSA in recent years has also helped establish dove hunting seasons in Ohio and Wisconsin and has defended seasons in Rhode Island and California.

“The anti’s think they smell blood and will never stop attacking dove hunting in Minnesota.  That means, sportsmen have to keep speaking out and letting their legislators know how important their hunting traditions are,” said USSA senior vice president, Rick Story.

Take Action! Minnesota sportsmen should contact their state representatives today. Let them know you oppose HF 1321 and banning mourning dove hunting. To find your legislators use the Legislative Action Center.
